В настоящей статье автор излагает вкратце содержание одной из книг по животноводству Ричарда Брэдли, профессора ботаники Кембриджского университета в 20-х годах XVIII столетия, "The gentleman and farmer's Guide for the increase and improvement of Cattle... 1729", и дает ее критическую оценку. Характерная особенность этой работы, выгодно отличающая ее от большинства более ранних изданий подобного типа, - систематическое расположение материала. Книга является, как указывает автор, во многих отношениях компилятивным трудом из разных более ранних английских источников (иногда указываемых Брэдли), с добавлением его собственных практических наблюдений и соображений.

Наибольшее внимание Брэдли уделяет овцеводству, при этом он нередко высказывает мысли, которые автор статья считает достаточно современными.

Книга Брэдли представляет несомненный интерес в том смысле, что она дает картину положения животноводства в Англии в начале XVIII и отчасти в XVI и XVII вв. (по мнению автора, мало отличавшихся от эпохи самого Брэдли) и характеризует уровень агрономиче-
